Hello Busayo,

My name is Silvia and I am a writer for WritePass. I am assuming you are referring to the definition given to the sea areas A1, A2, A3 and A4 in the context of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System. To that extent, I think this link will help https://www.iho.int/iho_pubs/CB/C-55/Sea-Areas.pdf/. If there is any other assistance you may need, feel free to contact me.

Kind regards,

Silvia

Hi dear Busayo,
In regard to your theme, I would suggest to review the articles in the following links. There explanations are given on the four areas, their role and their elements.

Definitions of Sea Areas A1, A2, A3 and A4 from IMO resolution A801(19)

Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) [Canadian Coast Guard]

According to the above link:
"There are four "Sea Areas" defined internationally in the GMDSS:
Sea Area A1 Within range of shore-based VHF DSC coast station (40 nautical miles)
Sea Area A2 Within range of shore-based MF DSC coast station (excluding sea areas A1)(150 nautical miles)
Sea Area A3 Within the coverage of an Inmarsat geostationary satellite (approximately 70°N to 70°S) (excluding sea areas A1 & A2)
Sea Area A4 The remaining areas outside sea areas A1, A2 & A3 (polar regions)"
