How do you write a literature review and what does it contain?

Your literature review would have the following structure:
Chapter One - Introduction (Introduction, Rationale, Aims/objectives, Research Methodology (you will refer to qualitative research/ since you will use literature review), Structure of the project, Chapter Two - Literature Review (Here you will use sub-sections, according to your aims and objectives), Chapter Three (Data presentation-analysis/ Preferably thematic analysis - you will divide this chapter using terms as heads/ themes, according to the findings of the literature review). In other words in Chapter Two you would include titles, such as: 'HRM practices used by the UK firms for increasing motivation', while in Chapter Three, you would use titles such as: "Monetary bonus", "car use", "paid holidays" etch. In Chapter Four you would include 'Discussion on data' - here you would show the correlation/ differences of findings. In Chapter Four you would include: "Conclusion", "Recommendations" and "Suggestions for further research", if gaps are identified in the literature.

A literature review comprises, quite literally, a sweep of all of the pertinent literature in your field, ensuring that you are up to date on contemporary research. It can be organized by way of an introduction and conclusion, together with several sections in between, each dealing with a particular theme.

1. You would start with a keyword search through your library database, setting the parameters to peer-reviewed journal articles written between 2012-2017.
2. You would download and collate the articles, skimming through them and organizing your literature review accordingly.
3. One you have done this preparatory work, start writing!

As an example, a literature review on special educational needs in the UK:

1. Introduction
2. History of Disability in the UK
3. Major Disability Legislation
4. Mainstreaming, Inclusive Practice and Segregation
5. Conclusion.
